How to use Where's It App
Discover local events, host your own, and connect with people in your community. Use the shortcuts below to jump to a topic, or browse the FAQ at the bottom.
Overview
Where's It App helps you find nearby events on a map or in lists, create and manage your own events, and connect with others through profiles and messages. You can browse as a guest; signing in unlocks creating events, RSVPs, messaging, and saving preferences like your country, postal code, and whether distances show in miles or kilometers.
- Find Events — browse by category, distance, dates, and price.
- Search — keywords for upcoming events (title, description, location) and people by display name; uses your ZIP when set for distance (defaults to about 25 miles or 40 km if you use metric units).
- Advanced filters — zip, city, date range, and name on the Events list.
- Home — map-focused discovery and quick filters.
Finding events
Browse by category
Open Find Events to see categories (music, sports, community, and more). Adjust distance from your location, pick a date window, and filter by free vs paid when those options are available.
Search & Events list
The header search opens the Search page (events and people). For more control (city, date range, list filters), use Advanced filters.
Your events
Signed-in hosts can open My events to see events you're organizing or following.
Creating events
Select Create Eventin the header. If you aren't signed in, you'll be prompted to log in or sign up first.
- Fill in title, description, date/time (or all-day), location, and optional details such as images or ticket info when available.
- Pick categories so the right audience can find your listing.
- Use private options only when your event is meant for invited guests—check on-screen hints when editing.
- After publishing, you can update or cancel from the event page or your dashboard—look for edit controls as the host.
- When you share an event or profile link, messaging apps and social platforms may show a title, description, and image preview pulled from your listing.
Need a new category? From Find Events you may see an option to suggest a category for moderators to review.
Account, settings & notifications
- Sign up with email and password, or sign in if you already have an account.
- Open Settings from your profile page (gear icon) to manage your account. Settings has three tabs:
Profile
Display name, bio, country, city, region, postal code, timezone, metric/imperial preference, profile image, and category interests.
Account & Privacy
Hide your email, bio, address, or phone from your public profile; choose whether your profile is public or private and whether others can send follow requests; and delete your account from the bottom of this tab.
Notifications (email)
Choose which activity emails you receive: new messages, new events from people you follow, friend requests, and event invitations. These are separate from in-app notifications on your profile page. Some transactional emails (such as password reset or security notices) may still be sent regardless of these toggles.
- Your public profile link can be shared so others can see your hosted events and social presence when those features are enabled.
- Passwords must meet these rules: At least 8 characters, including one letter and one number.
- Forgot your password? Use Forgot password on the sign-in page.
Messages & connections
When signed in, use the account menu in the header to open your profile and messaging tools.
- Messages — direct conversations with other members.
- Connections — manage follows and social relationships.
- Notifications — in-app inbox for friend requests, event invites, and similar alerts (not email preferences). To manage which emails you receive, open Settings and use the Notifications tab.
Map & search tips
- On the home map, pan and zoom to explore; the list and map often stay in sync when you hover or select events.
- Enter a postal code or city or a place name to re-center search—many flows support zip-based distance filters.
- If the map doesn't load, check that location services are allowed in your browser and that your network isn't blocking map tiles.
Safety & policies
